Liverpool had a night to forget on Thursday.

Former England and Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has described last night's 3-0 defeat to Atalanta as "the worst I've seen Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp".

A brace from former West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca and a late goal from Mario Pasalic has given Liverpool a mountain to climb in the Europa League quarter-finals.

The defeat is a first in 34 games at Anfield for the Reds, who may now never seen their side play in Europe under Klopp at Anfield again.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5Live, Warnock was not afraid to share criticism for his former team.

"Atalanta dominated Liverpool," said Warnock. "They created so many chances, Liverpool were poor.

"They were arguably the worst I have ever seen them [under Jurgen Klopp].

"Wasteful in possession, so many mistakes all over the pitch but they looked tired.

"They looked like a team that has played 56 games in a season and you could just see tired minds and tired bodies.

"But take nothing away from Atalanta, they were magnificent!"

If Liverpool are to give Klopp a successful send off in Europe they will need to produce something special in the second leg at Gewiss Stadium on Thursday, 18 April.
