Mbappe endured a tough night against Austria.

France may have won their opening match at Euro 2024, but it came at a cost, as striker Kylian Mbappe suffered a broken nose during the win.

Mbappe, who was the pre-tournament favourite to win the Golden Boot, sustained the injury when challenging for a cross with Austria defender Kevin Danso.

Mbappe failed to turn the ball goalbounds, and instead made strong contact with Danso’s shoulder.

After the match, Danso took to social media to apologise for his unintentional role in Mbappe’s injury.

"To French supporters: I am sorry that Kylian Mbappe was injured from our duel," Danso posted on X.

"I wish him a good recovery and I hope he can quickly get back on the pitch.”

It remains unclear whether Mbappe will be available for France’s crucial next game against the Netherlands on Friday.
