Several high profile names have been linked with a move to Arsenal this month, and the transfer chatter only grows as the team continue their fall from atop the Premier League standings.

Goal scoring is one factor that is widely seen as a need for the Gunners, who have only scored two goals across their four most recent matches.

Forwards like Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen and Dusan Vlahovic are among those who have been rumoured to be headed to the Emirates Stadium, but a former Arsenal player stressed that it takes much more than just plugging in the biggest names and hoping for the best when putting a team together.

Speaking to Lord Ping, Bacary Sagna noted that several characteristics need to be taken in consideration for potential incoming transfers, but he feels that the club are in good hands with the man currently making those decisions.

"I really like what Arsenal have done over the last couple of seasons in the transfer market," Sagna said.

"I like the fact that Edu was an ex-Arsenal player, so he knows what the club requires in terms of a players’ ability and a players’ personality.

"He understands football, not only business. A lot of the clubs that aren’t that successful in the transfer market have Sporting Directors from the world of business, but Edu is a guy that knows the club inside and out.

"Edu was part of the most successful Arsenal team in history. He knows the identity of the club and knows which players will suit that identify."

Sagna points to the current make-up of the Arsenal squad as evidence that Edu is the right person to help build the team into a consistent title contender.

"All the players that Edu and Arsenal have signed have been spot on," he said. "Take the example of Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale, Thomas Partey, they have all been a big success at the club.

"Declan Rice is another player that has been brilliant since he joined. I don’t think that Edu and Arteta have made a mistake since having complete control over the transfers at Arsenal.

"That is a very difficult to do. All of the players that they have signed have had a big impact at Arsenal.

"When Arsenal identify a player that they want, they know all about them and how they will fit into the team."
