The Yellow Submarine have taken down European giants in back-to-back rounds.

Villarreal's magical run through the 2021-22 UEFA Champions League continued Tuesday when they earned a 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich, good enough for a 2-1 aggregate victory over the German giants in the two-legged quarterfinal round.

The Spanish club earned the right to face Bayern by eliminating Juventus in the Round of 16, but last week's one-goal victory against Bayern left the door wide open for "Die Roten" to erase the deficit on home soil in Munich.

Things were seemingly going according to plan as Robert Lewandowski scored in the 52nd minute to give Bayern the lead in Tuesday's match and pull level on aggregate. The German side continued to control the play, enjoying 68 percent possession and creating 23 shots, but the visitors held fast and didn't allow Bayern to find the crucial goal to see them through to another Champions League semifinal.

Instead, it was Villarreal that would score the decisive strike, as Samuel Chukwueze finished a lethal counterattack in the 88th minute to put his side over the top.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Chelsea reversed a 3-1 deficit from the first leg of their quarterfinal with Real Madrid and forced extra time at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, the Londoners' good fortune ran out as Karim Benzema struck in the 96th minute to restore Madrid's lead for good, giving the Spanish side a 5-4 aggregate victory.
