Mohamed Salah can thrive in the Premier League for “two or three" more years, believes former England international Alan Shearer, adding the star is "better than ever."
The Reds forward looked back to his best during their 3-0 victory over Manchester United at the start of the month, nabbing two assists and a goal for Arne Slot’s side.
Salah dropped a bombshell in his post-match interview when he revealed that he feels the new campaign will be his final one at Anfield, after a glittering spell on Merseyside.
But Shearer, who had Premier League success with Blackburn, thinks the Egyptian can still succeed if he opts to stick around.
“I think it was a good move on Mo Salah’s part to come out and say he was treating it like his last season at the club,” Shearer told Betfair.
“Mo was putting a message out there, there's no doubt about that.
“Whether they listen, whether they're prepared to give him the length of contract he wants, or the money he wants, we’ll see.
“There are so many different factors. He may want a big payday and go abroad; we know there was talk about him a few months back about him going to Saudi.
“Whether that's what he wants or not I don't know, but it was clever timing on his part to put that message out.
"The thing with Salah is, he's had a rest in the summer and come back better than ever. He's started the season incredibly well.
“When you look at his physique and who and what he is, there's no doubt he can play at the top level for another two or three years at least."
