With victory over a major European rival in the bag, the forward believes the Gunners can finally find domestic joy on the home front too.

Bukayo Saka believes Arsenal can finally shed their tag as Premier League bridesmaids this term after their UEFA Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

The Gunners ran out 2-0 victors against the Ligue 1 champions at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Goals for Kai Havertz and Saka ensured Mikel Arteta's men have their first win in Europe this term, and offers further momentum ahead of Saturday's league game with Southampton.

Arsenal have finished second to Manchester City in the last two seasons in the English top flight, but Saka believes they can finally take that last step this time around.

"I don't want to put too much pressure on us but I do think that this is the year," he told CBS Sports.

"I think we've been close the last two years and we're getting closer, but this hopefully will be the year."

Saka has suffered last-gasp heartbreak on multiple fronts across his career, having also been a member of the England team that reached the UEFA Euro 2020 and 2024 Finals.

He admits his disappointment is driving his desire to finally lay his hands on silverware, adding to Amazon Prime: "It's just that spirit in me that I want to win this season.

"Of course, I believe in myself a lot. With those two things, it helps. We believe in ourselves, we believe we're a top team.

"We showed that tonight [against PSG]. I did tell the boys we have to make a statement when big teams are coming to the Emirates."

Arsenal last won the Premier League in 2004, as part of Arsene Wenger's legendary Invincibles campaign.

Since then, they have finished in the top four multiple times and reached major European finals, but have been unable to break their hoodoo in either.
