Canada at World Cup 2022: Fixtures, kick-off times, stadiums and where to watchCanada Soccer

The long wait is finally over, and now Canada can prepare for their first World Cup in 36 years.

The Canadians booked their spot for Qatar 2022 in style, topping CONCACAF's final qualification group and going undefeated against regional powers Mexico and the United States. Striker Cyle Larin led the confederation in scoring while the team scored the most goals of the eight-team final round and also allowed the fewest.

Basically, qualification for Qatar was all-but sewn up in November 2021 despite two more match windows and six more fixtures still to be played.

However, the feel good story ends there, as Canada now enter the World Cup with a clean slate and, once again, with everything to prove.

Along with Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies, Canada coach John Herdman can count on European-based talent like Larin and his Club Brugge teammate Tajon Buchanan, as well as young striker Jonathan David, midfielder Stephen Eustaquio and Atiba Hutchinson, and Champions League veteran Milan Borjan as pillars of his team. Add in major North American-based contributors Jonathan Osorio, Alistair Johnston, Maxime Crepeau and Mark-Anthony Kaye, and the Canadians have a mix of talent plying their trade on both sides of the Atlantic.

But will Herdman be able to recreate the magic of the qualifying run on the biggest stage? That's the biggest question hanging over the country that will end the second-longest World Cup drought among the 32 teams that will play in Qatar.

Here are the fixtures that will define Canada's World Cup journey, along with kick-off times and how to watch.

What stadiums will Canada play in at World Cup 2022?

Each of Canada's three group stage matches will be played at a different venue.

Al-Rayyan Stadium - Belgium vs. Canada

Officially named the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, the Al-Rayyan Stadium is nicknamed as such due to the city in which it stands.

The 50,000-seat venue is actually the second stadium to be built on the same spot, with its predecessor holding less than half the capacity and standing from 2003-2015.

Home to Al-Rayyan SC and Al Kharaitiyat SC of the Qatar Stars League, the stadium opened in 2020 and has since hosted matches in the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup and the FIFA Arab Cup 2021. More recently, the stadium hosted the two intercontinental play-off matches that determined the final two countries (Australia and Costa Rica) to advance to Qatar 2022.

Including Belgium vs. Canada, Al-Rayyan Stadium will host seven matches at Qatar 2022.

Khalifa International Stadium - Croatia vs. Canada

Canada's second match will be played at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, a 45,416-seat venue that is by far the oldest at Qatar 2022.

Opened in 1976, it's a multipurpose venue that has hosted track and field events as well as football events. The stadium has undergone numerous renovations, including major redevelopments in 2005 and 2017, to increase capacity and amenities.

Major events that have been hosted at the venue include the 2006 Asian Games, 2011 Pan Arab Games, 2019 World Athletics Championships and a pair of 2019 FIFA Club World Cup matches. It will host eight World Cup games, including the third-place match.

Al Thumama Stadium - Canada vs. Morocco

The smallest of the venues that Canada will play in during the group stage, the Al Thumama Stadium is probably the most visually unique of the three.

Designed to resemble a traditional taqiyah hat worn by men and boys in the Middle East, the stadium holds 40,000 seats. It officially opened in October 2021, and hosted six FIFA Arab Cup 2021 matches.

Canada vs. Morocco will be the last of six group stage matches held at the venue, with a round of 16 and a quarter-final match also scheduled to be played there.
