Coventry manager laments 'too many poor goals' conceded to Manchester United in FA Cup semi-finalGetty
The EFL Championship side put up a valiant fight in the match.

Coventry City nearly completed a comeback for the ages on Sunday when they fought back from a 3-0 second-half deficit to force extra time in their FA Cup semi-final match against Manchester United.

The Sky Blues rode a late-match outburst to equalise in stoppage time, and only fell to the Premier League giants in the penalty shootout.

For the EFL championship side, the opportunity to make a run to the FA Cup final ended in heartbreaking fashion, and after the match Mark Robins explained that it took some adjustments for his side to get themselves back into a match that appeared to be over at the hour mark.

"We conceded too many poor goals," the Coventry manager told ITV. "We knew we had to make changes which we did at half-time. We spoke about not having regrets. We started to look more of a threat.

"To come back from 3-0 down is incredible. Some good quality football. We were really disappointed at the end."

Robins detailed the agonising way his team exited the competition after putting up a valiant fight, lauding his players for their effort against a much bigger club.

"We hit the bar and had a goal disallowed," he said. "It was a really difficult game. We lose [Fabio] Tavares to injury and had to make another change.

"If you can attack [United] you can really hurt them. I can't be prouder of them. They did fantastically well. I think we've made Coventry proud.

"You get to penalties and it's a lottery. You don't hold anything against anyone if they show the courage to take one in a cauldron."
