Two teams likely battling for second place in Group D kick off their 2023 Women's World Cup campaign as Denmark face China on Saturday.

The Danes are playing in their first WWC since 2007, when they exited in the group stage. Their lack of success betrays the collection of talent on the squad, with Bayern Munich's Pernille Harder leading a line-up that also includes the likes of Amalie Vangsgaard (PSG), Sofie Svava (Real Madrid) and Kathrine Kühl (Arsenal).

Most of China's roster plays domestically, but they can also boast a few players who ply their trade in Europe and the NWSL. The Chinese had fallen away from their status among the sport's elite sides in the early iterations of this tournament, but a 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup title could indicate that they are heading back towards the top of the women's game once again.
