Christian Eriksen will be fitted with a heart starting device following his collapse on the pitch during the Denmark vs. Finland game in Copenhagen last Saturday.
The Inter Milan midfielder, formerly of Ajax and Tottenham Hotspur, suffered a cardiac arrest in the tenth minute of the game and received emergency CPR treatment for a sustained period afterwards.
Worrying scenes followed but Eriksen was resuscitated on the pitch and has been receiving treatment ever since.
"Christian has accepted the solution and the plan has moreover been confirmed by specialists nationally and internationally who all recommend the same treatment," said Morten Boesen, the Danish team doctor. "We encourage everybody to give Christian and his family peace and privacy."
Denmark resume their Euro 2020 campaign this evening when they take on Belgium. A tribute is being planned by both teams ahead of the fixture.
