Dietmar Hamann says German fans have a team they "can be proud of" following Euro 2024.
The host nation exited at the quarter-final stage, falling 2-1 to eventual champions Spain after extra time. The Germans may have deserved a penalty that was not given against the Spanish, but Hamann believes that the overall feeling surrounding the team is a good one.
Speaking to TopOffshoreSportsBooks, the former Germany international explained that while there was disappointment following the quarter-final loss, most should feel the future looks bright for the team.
"The German fans are pretty happy because the team made them proud, which wasn’t the case in the previous three tournaments," he said.
"We had a lot of disappointing results and performances in those tournaments. The mood is obviously very disappointed, a lot of people go on about that potential penalty, which I don't think it was.
"We lost the game but I think they came out with a lot of credit and I think they gained a lot of confidence back which they lost in the last few years.
"So even though they did get beat in the quarter-finals, I think people were still pretty happy that we've got a national team again we can be proud of."
