Dietmar Hamann identifies England's biggest weakness at Euro 2024

Dietmar Hamann identifies England's biggest weakness at Euro 2024DAZN

Retired Premier League player Dietmar Hamann believes Jordan Pickford is England's weak link.

The Three Lions are preparing for Euro 2024 in Hamann's home country of Germany, and the former Newcastle, Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder has identified the goalkeeping position as one of fragility for England ahead of the competition.

Speaking to Prime Casino, Hamann explained why he thinks Pickford's presence on the pitch could be a "negative" one for one of the tournament favourites.

"I think Pickford is a weakness," Hamann said. "I don’t think he radiates composure and that can have a negative effect on the defence.

"He isn’t a player that is calm when things go against him. Goalkeeper is such a key position.

"You need a calming influence in the moments when you will suffer. You need to be positive when you have a setback.

"It’s really important to keep your spirits up and not lose your head when things aren’t going for you, and I don’t think Pickford radiates calm on the pitch with his behaviour.

"There is a knock-on effect to that too – the panic starts to spread to other parts of your team. His behaviour doesn’t help when the going gets tough."
