Last season for Real Madrid was one of dominance.

Los Blancos claimed a 36th La Liga title whilst winning the UEFA Champions League with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium.

With a squad boasting stars such as Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and Antonio Rudiger, some would think that not many more names need to be added to bring a similar level of success for the 2024/25 season.

However, Real Madrid is a destination for the biggest players in world football, and Kylian Mbappe's move to the Spanish capital in the summer epitomised that.

While the arrival of Mbappe led many to think that Madrid's attack would lead them to another La Liga title at a canter, this season has been anything but that.

Going into this weekend's fixtures, Real Madrid are second, six points behind league leaders Barcelona and Mbappe is failing to live up to expectations.

Speaking to Casino Hawks, World Cup winner Emanuel Petit has claimed that Mbappe is someone which manager Carlo Anceloti and several Real Madrid players did not want at the club.

"I’m sure that Carlo Ancelotti and several Real Madrid players didn’t want the club to sign Kylian Mbappe in the summer," Petit said.

"This was a dressing room who had just won La Liga and the Champions League and his arrival has only brought trouble.

"Ancelotti was on top of the world after winning the Champions League and I think he would’ve liked two or three players to fit into his squad but no big changes.

"When you win big trophies you build happiness and bringing in big egos changes things.

"The biggest problem for Mbappe is having two team-mates who also want to be the star of the show and want to win the Ballon d’Or in Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr."

Real Madrid return to action on Sunday with a trip to Leganes in La Liga as they look to keep pace with rivals Barcelona.
