The former midfielder has doubts over a key area for the Gunners.

Emmanuel Petit believes Arsenal's inability to bring in a new striker could prove to be a mistake come the end of the season.

The Gunners closed their transfer business in the very last minutes of the summer window when they struck a deal to sign Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea.

The former England international's arrival on a season-long deal added to the signings of Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori and Spain's Euro 2024 hero Mikel Merino.

But Petit, who won a double with Arsenal, thinks a failure to boost their attacking options means they could become too predictable, with their frontline lacking different options.

“I have been very happy with Kai Havertz’s performances, but he’s not a natural striker,” Petit told BetVictor.

“When Arsenal aren’t playing well they become predictable and we saw that against Brighton.

"They need a plan B, a typical striker up front who can create more options for the midfielders and attackers around him. They needed something different and they didn’t get it.

“At the moment, Arteta and his staff are at a crossroads. There are many directions in which they could go, but they have to make sure they take the right one.

"I have full confidence in Arteta and Edu because they work so well together. They will know that not signing a striker in this window was a failure.”
