The dismissal was strongly criticised.

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had his red card against Crystal Palace overturned after the Toffees appealed the decision.

The red card - which would have been the first of Calvert-Lewin's career - was given after a foul on Nathaniel Clyne.

Referee Chris Kavanagh consulted with Video Assistant Referee (VAR) Craig Pawson and after checking the replay on the monitor brandished the red card.

The decision was widely criticised, with Everton manager Sean Dyche saying after the match: "I have no clue what that [monitor] is there for.

"I'm a fan [of VAR] but we're all aware it needs tidying up. I thought it was getting tidied up but it seems to have stepped back a little bit.

"I remain a fan, but it is beginning to test my patience."

The Football Association (FA) overturned the decision on Tuesday, and the Everton striker is now available to play Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.
