Arne Slot will take over as Liverpool's manager next month, and Fernando Morientes believes Dani Olmo would be a good early signing for the Dutchman.

Morientes played two seasons for Liverpool in the 2000s, and he thinks his younger countryman could be a good fit at Anfield.

Olmo currently stars for RB Leipzig and the Spain national team, and Morientes believes the 26-year-old is Liverpool material — should Olmo consider a move away from the German side that doesn't involve returning to Spain.

Morientes was speaking on behalf of BoyleSports, who offer the latest Champions League betting, and he explained his thoughts behind a potential Olmo move.

"He looks like a big player, and a player who is prepared and ready to make the jump to a team like Liverpool for a chance, because he’s a player who’s grown a lot since the last window, and he’s a sure fixture in the Spanish national team," Morientes said.

"He’s a very smart player too, with a lot of resources to hurt defences, and he’s so good, here in Spain everyone would like to see him in a big team here.

"But outside of Spain he’s certainly a player who’ll surely be one of the great Spanish players on the wider European football scene should he move away."
