A Three Lions quintet will be looking to avoid a costly yellow card on Saturday.

England will have five players walking the disciplinary tightrope when the Three Lions take on Switzerland in Dusseldorf on Saturday.

Gareth Southgate’s men go into their Euro 2024 quarter-final against the Swiss knowing they will need to put in a much-improved performance if they are to reach the semi-finals.

The team needed a stoppage-time overhead kick from Jude Bellingham to force extra time against Slovakia, with Harry Kane then heading home a winner in the last-16 clash. That came after an underwhelming group stage that saw the team score just two goals in three games.

And if England do book in a last-four clash against either Turkey or the Netherlands, they will be hoping that five players will be able to get through the Switzerland match without a booking.

While yellow cards are wiped after the quarter-finals, players who are booked twice before the end of their country’s fifth match will be suspended for any potential semi-final.

That means Jude Bellingham, Kibbie Mainoo, Kieran Trippier, Phil Foden and Conor Gallagher must all be on their best behaviour against the Swiss, as they are all going into the quarter-final carrying one yellow card each.

England are already without Marc Guehi for the quarter-final following his yellow against Slovakia.
