Gary Cahill believes one Chelsea player has stood out from the rest.

Gary Cahill has claimed that Cole Palmer has been Chelsea's standout star this season, calling the England man the club's 'shining light'.

Mauricio Pochettino has endured a tough first season in charge at Stamford Bridge, with the club marooned in midtable in the Premier League and the Argentine having to face questions over his future - despite reaching the final of the Carabao Cup and remaining in contention for the FA Cup.

One bright spot in their season, though, has been the performances of summer signing Cole Palmer. The forward has scored 12 goals in 28 games for the club since arriving from Manchester City, and former Blues defender Cahill thinks he's been Chelsea's number-one star this season.

“Cole Palmer has been fantastic amongst everything that has been going on over the past few months,” he told Parimatch

“He has been one of the shining lights. He came from Manchester City so he knows what playing for a big club is all about.

“He looks like he’s playing without fear and that is a great character trait. For him still to play with that level of confidence, even when the rest of the team isn’t playing so well, that is fantastic. He wants to get on the ball in dangerous areas and produce at such a young age, his numbers are impressive and he looks as though he’s only going to get stronger. He’s one hell of a talent!”
