Frank Leboeuf doesn't believe Chelsea owner Todd Boehly cares about football.
Boehly took control of the club along with Hansjörg Wyss and Mark Walter in May 2022 after longtime former owner Roman Abramovich was forced to sell, and since the takeover Chelsea have made several big money transfers for young players.
The massive spending hasn't worked as of yet, with Chelsea finishing sixth in the Premier League last season and parting ways with manager Mauricio Pochettino, and Leboeuf has expressed concern that things will get worse under Boehly's stewardship.
Speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Euro 2024 Betting, former Chelsea defender Leboeuf said he doesn't think Boehly has the best interests of the club at heart and drew a parallel to another big Premier League side whose owners came under cricitism in recent years.
"Are fans starting to become disconnected with Chelsea due to their owners? Todd Boehly does not listen to people - all he wants to do is make money and they don’t care about football and it’s the same with the Glazers at Man United," Leboeuf said.
"They do not care about football and that’s what I’m resentful about. They need to be wiser and the fans need to see it otherwise they will continue to be upset."
Leboeuf further explained that while Abramovic was quick to fire managers, the former Chelsea owner had a better handle on building a squad than what he's seen from Boehly so far.
To that end, Leboeuf thinks a club legend could help.
"I get if you want to sign someone and sell them for profit, but Abramovich was a genius where he’d get the money back due to the success on the pitch," Leboeuf said
"He did not pay £100m for any player, with the exception of [Fernando] Torres, the recruitment was exceptional - just look at [Claude] Makelele, [Didier] Drogba, [Frank] Lampard, [Ricardo] Carvalho. Everything was spot on and you never had any poor coaches, too. He changed coaches but there was a clear structure - which was the right recruitment.
"I’m not sure who is advising Todd Boehly but instead of Frank Lampard being a coach, why don’t they appoint him as an advisor at Chelsea?"
