Gareth Southgate named a 33-man training squad ahead of this summer's tournament in Germany, and the most notable omission was the name of Manchester United forward Rashford.
Rashford has scored just eight goals this season and seen players jump ahead of him in the England pecking order, and speaking to BetVictor, Pallister can understand why Southgate omitted him from the squad.
He said: “I don't think it was particularly a surprise. It's been well highlighted and well documented that it's been a struggle for Marcus Rashford this year.
“The season before, certainly in terms of goals, he was actually on fire and having one of his best campaigns for Manchester United.
“But he's been in a team this year that struggled most of the season and he struggled himself. I think Gareth Southgate more or less said that the players he selected are in better form.
“Marcus will be disappointed but you've got to be proving it week in, week out at your club to show to Gareth that you're in the kind of form that will make him want to take you to the Euros. People like Anthony Gordon have probably been in better form than Marcus.”
