Emile Heskey has called on Eddie Howe to be named as England manager following the exit of Gareth Southgate.
The England manager position is now vacant after Southgate decided to step down following his country’s 2-1 loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
That defeat came three years after England was defeated at Euro 2020 when its dreams were crushed by Italy via a penalty shootout.
Plenty of high-profile names will be linked to the job, but Heskey, a former England international, believes Howe deserves a chance.
“Eddie Howe for me,” said Heskey when speaking to OLBG.
“What I will say is being an international manager is very, very difficult, especially if you've been a club manager for so long, because being a club manager, you've got them 24/7 all the time. You're moulding them into what you want.
“That's something new to Eddie but he’s very meticulous on the training field and making sure his players understand what he wants and going through it in routine, routine, routine.”
