The veteran is still scoring.

Former England and Arsenal striker Alan Smith revealed his admiration for Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

Portugal face the Czech Republic tonight in their Euro 2024 group stage game, and the veteran is in what is probably his last international tournament - though nobody would be hugely surprised if he somehow turns out for his country at the 2026 World Cup.

The 39-year-old striker is still banging in the goals for Al-Nassr following his move from Manchester United a couple of years ago, and Smith lauded his determination to keep up his form.

He told Lord Ping : “Ronaldo should be coming into this tournament in a good place. He's enjoyed a great season in Saudi Arabia.

“Whatever you say about the level of football out there, he's still got that desire to score goals and to break records.

“He's not gone out there for a cushy retirement and I admire that about him.

“You could say he’s gone for the money, but he still wants to keep up those standards and he has largely.”
