England are almost certain to secure qualification for Euro 2024 and one former forward believes his country can do well at the tournament in Germany next year.
Darren Bent, who represented England on numerous occasions has been impressed with what he has seen from Gareth Southgate’s side, and he think next year’s European championships could see England finally come good.
Southgate’s record with England in major tournaments has been impressive.
A semi-final appearance at the 2018 World Cup, their first since 1990, gave England a major boost heading into Euro 2020.
There, England made it all the way to the finals but were denied on penalties by a resilient Italian side. Bent is expecting a better showing next time around.
“I think they’ll do really well,” said Bent when speaking to DAZN courtesy of British Gambler.
“On paper, we’ve got the strongest squad in world football. We’ve got players in this squad who can do damage at the top end of the pitch and they're playing at such a high level for their clubs.
“I think we should be going to win it. England have to get to the final, minimum. If they were to go out in the quarters with this squad, it would be a travesty.”
