Former Everton player explains benefits of move from Goodison Park to new stadiumDAZN
The Toffees are set to move next year.

Phil Jagielka will miss Goodison Park, but he believes the new Everton Stadium will help the club compete with the bigger sides in the Premier League.

The Toffees have just kicked off their final season at Goodison Park, which has been the club's home since 1892. They'll move to the new stadium, located two miles southwest of Goodison Park, next summer, at which time Everton will enjoy a 13,000-seat increase in capacity and all the amenities that a modern venue provides.

Jagielka played 12 seasons for Everton at the current ground, and while he holds a special place in his heart for Goodison Park and similar venerable venues around England, he feels the move to the new stadium will provide a boost to the club.

"The whole point of the new stadium is to put Everton in a better financial state," Jagielka told Betway. "Goodison is so old, I think it's got six executive boxes.

"You look at Arsenal, and Highbury for me was a better stadium for a football fan to go and watch Arsenal, but the Emirates is an amazing place and generates an amazing amount.

"I love Spurs’ old stadium, now they've gone to a new one and it’s probably the best stadium I've ever been to, but the reason they've got there is, again, to get their commercial revenue and make sure the club can keep competing."
