Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre believes that Andre Onana is making the same mistakes that cost David de Gea his place at the club.
The Spanish international is yet to sign for another club after his contract at Old Trafford expired in the summer, and Erik ten Hag brought in the Cameroonian international from Inter Milan to replace him.
However a string of errors from the new man have led to calls for him to be dropped, and some even want De Gea to be brought back to the club.
Speaking to GGRecon, Silvestre pointed out these kinds of errors ended De Gea’s time at the club.
He said: “Manchester United got rid of David de Gea because he was making mistakes and now André Onana is doing that too.
"There’s question marks surrounding the goalkeeping situation at the club at the moment and it needs resolving as soon as possible because this is the one position that can bring confidence to the entire team.
“The margin for error in the Premier League and the Champions League is so small that you can’t go around making these kinds of mistakes.
"Manchester United aren’t as dominant as they once were and you can no longer expect them to easily recover from going a goal down in a game, so this is why it’s even more important for them to keep clean sheets and be stronger defensively.
“Onana isn’t responsible for all of the goals that Manchester United have conceded so far this season and the fact that they have rarely been given the opportunity to play the same back four in consecutive games makes it more difficult for them to progress as a unit.
"It’s been very difficult for the team as a whole, but Onana’s got some work to do and he knows that.”
