Former Manchester United midfielder Gordon Strachan has picked out Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay for praise as they have formed part of the club’s recent turnaround.
United have put together three consecutive Premier League wins, and part of that has been due to Maguire’s improvement in form that has kept Raphael Varane out of the side, and more notably, McTominay grabbed a late winner this weekend for a 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
Erik ten Hag’s men are in sixth place and it seems far-fetched to suggest they could reach the Champions League spots by the end of the season, but speaking to Lord Ping, Strachan suggested that the hard work from the British pair shows up United’s signings from Ajax.
He said: “I think if you asked Erik ten Hag at the beginning of the season would you include Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay in your best eleven, he would have said no.
"They are hardworking professionals who don’t have the glitz of some of the summer signings or some of ten Hag’s former Ajax players. They don’t do anything that is particularly flashy or skilful, but they do win games of football.”
