Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha thinks that Marcus Rashford is risking his reputation at Old Trafford.
Rashford endured a difficult second season at United after hitting 30 goals for the first time in the previous campaign.
He was also dropped from the first team for a disciplinary problem by Erik ten Hag, and while he got back into the team for the second half of the campaign, that lack of form cost him his place at Euro 2024.
Saha told Paddy Power he thinks his wider career could be imperilled too: “Regardless of whether Marcus Rashford stays or leaves Manchester United, he needs a fresh start next season.
“If he stays at Manchester United, he needs to start again and prove people wrong. If he goes to another club, it’s the same. At the end of the day, it’s about his statistics – last year they were bad, and he has to recognise that.
“Erik ten Hag can help him; the tactics can be better – but that’s part of the job. Manchester United have an imbalanced character model in the dressing room – there are some good and talented players, but there is a lack of balance with the characters, especially when their main players get injured.
“I think that Rashford must realise that he has to refresh, and start like he was when he was 18, with all the enthusiasm that he had. He was delivering 90% of his potential the year before. He needs to go to the training pitch and not think twice – if today is not a good day, tomorrow it will work out.
“It’s easy for me to say, but I had the best characters in the team back in my day – I had to still fight. I had injuries and moments when I wasn’t really playing well.
"You have to find a way anyway. Maybe he does not have the best setup, but he has to find a way. There were elements of last season which were very positive, he just needs to do it consistently.
"He’s fighting for the club, for his reputation, and for the name on the back of his shirt.”
