The Dutchman may be under pressure.

Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole thinks the pressure is still on Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman has been given a vote of confidence by Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s new owner who has taken charge of football matters.

It had been reported that he would be sacked regardless of the outcome of the FA Cup final against Manchester City, but an outstanding 2-1 victory may have helped him secure the role, and a two-year extension is expected to be discussed with the manager.

However, United are yet to make a signing and they have plenty of problems to juggle, such as the future of Casemiro, the sale of Jadon Sancho, and the form of Marcus Rashford.

With that in mind, Cole thinks that he will need to convince the fans from the moment the new season begins.

He told Betfred: “It may take more than a few bad results, but the scrutiny will be on him from the first day of pre-season.

“If they start their season like they did the last, then of course the pressure is going to be on him quickly.

“It will be very interesting to see how it all works out.”
