Louis Saha has identified a number of areas that Manchester United need improvement in, starting with André Onana.
Saha believes Onana has shown enough quality to continue as the Red Devils' No. 1 goalkeeper, but only if he cleans up certain aspects of his game.
It's a similar story for the defence in front of Onana, with Saha stating that the back-line is fine for now.
“André Onana needs to improve, the number of mistakes he makes is not good," Saha said while speaking to Paddy Power. "I don’t think that Manchester United would be right to replace him as he can definitely improve.
"The goalkeeper and defence are good enough – although maybe the wing-back area can be strengthened."
While Saha has given a passing grade to the goalkeeper and defence, it's at midfield and forward that he believes the club should focus their recruitment efforts on. In paricular, United need players that will help them control the play, he said.
“The midfield is the main weakness for United – they need legs, power and creativity," Saha said. "Buying one player alone to fill that gap will be very expensive, but they need someone with creativity who can run with the ball and break the lines.
"Against Liverpool [last week], Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo did just that – it was the best performance I’ve seen from Mainoo for months. He approached the game more like he was a youngster, whereas he’s been playing like he’s 30 years old at times.
“I said in the summer that if Manchester United have an opportunity to sign someone creative, Dani Olmo is that player. I don’t see many players like him who create and score goals, and that’s the type of player that United look for. The best player with that combination of skill and creativity is Paul Pogba, but he’s not available until March and isn’t match fit, but someone who fits that type of profile.
“United also need a confident striker – I'm not sure how Joshua Zirkzee will progress. He’s played a few minutes and done okay, but the club needs a confident striker that knows how to score 25-30 goals a season – and there aren’t many of them in the world. One that comes to mind is Victor Osimhen.”
