Bacary Sagna believes Marcus Rashford will be back to his best in the upcoming season.

Rashford struggled throughout the 2023-24 campaign, scoring just eight goals across all competitions after netting 30 the season previous. The 26-year-old's woes echoed that of his club, Manchester United, who finished eighth in the Premier League after scoring the fewest goals of the top 10 teams.

However, a new season provides a new beginning, and former Arsenal and Manchester City defender Sagna thinks Rashford will come back stronger in 2024-25.

“Players are only humans and last season, Marcus Rashford might not have been at his best mentally, and if you’re not mentally at your best, you can’t play," Sagna told Paddy Power.

“Before he’s a player, he’s a human being. People are quick to criticise players, but they forget that if they’re not in a good mental place, it’s difficult to play because they’re only human and they have priorities which are life and family.

“We all love football but when you’re struggling off the pitch, that affects your game. Everyone will agree that Rashford is a fantastic player, and he hasn’t been performing well recently but I’m sure there are reasons.

“I’m not worried for him because he’s a top player and I look forward to seeing him come back with new body language and a different mindset so he can hopefully he can put right what went wrong last season.”
