Premier League clubs have voted for the technology to stay.

One of the most pleasing aspects of Euro 2024 has been the lack of VAR drama throughout the tournament.

It's a significant shift from the Premier League last season when a number of major incidents prompted clubs to meet at the end of the campaign to vote on the use of the technology.

In the end, 19 of the clubs voted to keep VAR, but speaking exclusively to DAZN thanks to Online Poker, former Premier League referee Mark Halsey says consistency has to improve to stop the frustration among players, managers, and fans.

"VAR is never going away. A lot of leagues around the world have spent a lot of money implementing it," he said.

"You can however understand Wolves’ frustration and why they sent that letter in the first place, they want to see a vast improvement in VAR in the Premier League, as most clubs do. There are plenty of teams from last season who could have a gripe about VAR, the inconsistency since its inception has been unbelievable.

"I got the impression that the VAR referees didn’t know when to come in, they were always coming in when they shouldn’t have done and vice versa. We saw that inconsistency last season with penalty incidents, challenges and offsides.

"We’ve got a long way to go to improve the consistency in the Premier League and that’s all that anyone ever asks for.

"The fans are also as important as anyone else and they need to be able to hear the conversations between VAR and the on-pitch referees for some clarity, and they may not agree with it but it’s important they know how the referees get to a decision."
