Arsenal's Premier League title hopes took a blow on Saturday as they were defeated 1-0 by hosts Newcastle United.
Alexander Isak's 12th-minute strike stood as the game's only goal as the Gunners were impotent in front of goal despite holding 64 percent possession, with just one shot on target over the 90 minutes by the visitors.
The Magpies were happy conceding possession to Arsenal as the hosts looked to attack quickly whenever they did have the ball, and the strategy was effective enough to stifle and frustrate the visiting side.
"We deserved to lose today," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told Premier League Productions. "I thought we started really well and were really dominant. We didn't defend the box well enough. Credit to them. They scored a great goal with a good ball.
"Then the game changes and you start to play a different game. You have to adapt and we didn't do that well enough. I am very frustrated.
"We got dragged into a game they are looking for constantly and we couldn't play the game that we wanted."
The loss is Arsenal's second of the season and left them five points behind league leaders Manchester City before the Sky Blues' match against Bournemouth.
