Harry Redknapp's Premier League predictions for Matchday Nine

There's a title clash at the Emirates, while sorry Saints head to the champions.

The Premier League rolls into Matchday nine with one of it's biggest headliners of the season so far, as Arsenal host top of the table Liverpool on Sunday.

It could be a key moment in this season's title race as the two biggest challengers to Manchester City meet. Elsewhere, City entertain Southampton, who are still looking for their first win of the campaign, while there's a midlands derby between Leicester and Nottingham Forest and West Ham host Manchester United.

Here's Harry Redknapp, talking to BetVictor, giving his predictions for the weekend's games.

Arsenal 1-2 Liverpool

What a game this is set to be! Things haven’t been right for Arsenal of late. Even before last week’s red, they’ve been winning games by the odd goal and haven’t been as dominant of late. I think they badly miss Martin Odegaard’s class and composure in the final third and they seem to be accumulating more injuries.

Liverpool may not catch the eye as much as they did under Jurgen Klopp, but they look organised, they have the league’s best defensive record and that’s not by accident. A win here and they probably become the title favourites.

No William Saliba is massive. His absence probably cost them the title a couple of seasons ago and I think it’s bound to be a factor here, he’s just that good. I think Liverpool edge it and Mohamed Salah could be the difference, particularly if it looks like Riccardo Calafiori will be out as well.

One to watch - Curtis Jones was terrific last week, it was probably the best game of his career. He’ll be looking for more of the same here.

Chelsea 2-0 Newcastle

I know they lost last week at Anfield, but I couldn’t help but be impressed by Chelsea. On another day, they at least get a point. The depth of this squad is ridiculous, a player like Pedro Neto would start for most teams in the league and we saw how dangerous he was as a sub when he came on.

I don’t think Eddie Howe is under any pressure, but he could do with a decent result soon. They’ve been a bit goal shy of late, they’ve badly missed Alexander Isak and will be hoping their talisman can find his feet instantly.

You’ve got to favour Chelsea here; they look in a really good place at the minute.

One to watch - I think Nicolas Jackson is an underrated striker. People often point to the chances he misses but his movement is excellent, and he can be a good finisher. You forget his age too, I think there’s a lot more to come from him over the next few seasons.

West Ham 1-1 Manchester United

West Ham are another side where you just don’t know what to expect from them. They’ve clearly got a lot of good players but they’re inconsistent and we’ve seen them collapse defensively on a couple of occasions. Mohammed Kudus being suspended is a massive blow as well, talk about a daft, pointless sending off.

Manchester United got the win over Brentford but I don’t think it will stop any of the critics or doubters. That being said, three points here and United won’t be far off the top four.

Honestly, this might be the hardest game to predict this week, it could be anything! I’m going for a draw though.

One to watch - It sounds ridiculous to be picking a right-back here but Aaron Wan-Bissaka, coming up against his old side, is an interesting one. He is a fantastic one-on-one defender, so I’m looking forward to that duel against Alejandro Garnacho or potentially Marcus Rashford.

Manchester City 4-0 Southampton

Manchester City weren’t at their best once again last week. I know it’s easy to say it now, but I just had a feeling they would find a winner in that game and sure enough, they did. Erling Haaland looked right back at his best against Sparta Prague in midweek and he’ll want more goals here.

I just really worry for Southampton; the morale must be terrible. Beating Leicester would have given them such a lift and to go and lose the game with the last kick, you don’t get over that easily.

I’m saying 4-0 but it could be more.

One to watch - Phil Foden has had a quiet start to the season. He’ll want to find his best form and remind Thomas Tuchel of his quality.

Crystal Palace 1-3 Tottenham

Things aren’t right at Crystal Palace. They haven’t been terrible this season, but they keep losing games by the odd goal and they clearly aren’t scoring enough. I do think Oliver Glasner can turn this around, but they need a decent result soon.

I thought Spurs were terrific in that second half against West Ham, they could have scored six. I never know quite what to expect from this Spurs team but when they click, they’re a joy to watch.

One to watch – Dejan Kulusevski has been as good as anyone in the league in the last few weeks, he’s been brilliant since he moved more central. Fair play to him and Ange Postecoglou for making that positional tweak.

Aston Villa 2-1 Bournemouth

It’s been a great week for Aston Villa. It was a pretty routine win for them over Bologna during the week, they never looked like losing. What a job Unai Emery continues to do here.

I know they were up against 10 men but what a win that was for Bournemouth against Arsenal, just fantastic. The opening goal was brilliant, so well worked, that’s one of the goals of the season for me.

Bournemouth give every side a good game, but you’ve got to lean towards Villa here.

One to watch - Ollie Watkins got a rest during the week in the Champions League and caused havoc last week against Fulham.

Brighton 2-0 Wolves

Brighton look in good form at the minute, albeit they rode their luck a little bit at times against Newcastle. Hopefully Danny Welbeck is fit, it would be a real shame for the lad if he picked up yet another injury after being in such good form.

Wolves must still be gutted after what happened against City. To put so much effort into the game for nothing was a real blow and I know Gary O’Neil wasn’t happy.

I’ve got to pick Brighton here. 2-0.

One to watch – Georginio Rutter is really beginning to find his feet for Brighton and has been impressive in the last few weeks.

Everton 1-1 Fulham

Everton really have turned the corner. I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect them to go to Ipswich and win, fair play to them. I still don’t think Sean Dyche gets the credit he deserves for the job he continues to do there.

Fulham’s defeat to Villa really did show the fine margins in football. They have a penalty to go 2-1 up, miss it and the whole game turned. Still, it’s been a good start to the season.

I can’t really split these two, particularly at Goodison Park. 1-1.

One to watch - Raul Jimenez has had a fantastic start to the season. I thought this lad was on the decline after that horrendous injury he got but he’s bounced back this season, it’s great to see.

Leicester 1-1 Nottingham Forest

This will be a strange one for Steve Cooper, I know how it feels to face an old side and it’s never particularly enjoyable. He’s doing a good job at Leicester though, that was a big win for them last week at Southampton.

Nottingham Forest have had a fantastic start to the season. They aren’t the most prolific side in the world but boy are they organised and hard to score against.  Nuno Espirito Santo has done an excellent job in that regard.

I can’t really split them, 1-1.

One to watch – Here we’ll see two veteran strikers at each end of the park, Chris Wood and Jamie Vardy. I won’t be shocked if both of them find the net here.

Brentford 2-0 Ipswich

Brentford gave Manchester United a decent game last week but narrowly lost in the end. They’ll like their chances here though, they’ve got a fantastic knack of beating the sides they should be beating, that’s why they always seem to comfortably stay up.

Ipswich were disappointing last week. I really fancied them against Everton and it’s getting to the point where they desperately need a win.

I can only see Brentford winning here. They’ve got too much Premier League knowhow and experience.

One to watch - As always, keep an eye on Bryan Mbeumo, particularly in the first minute or so!
