Marc Guehi should retain his place for England from Euro 2024 under Lee Carsley rather than be replaced by Harry Maguire, says ex- Manchester United defender Wes Brown.
The Crystal Palace centre-back was elevated to partner John Stones at this summer's tournament by Gareth Southgate and played in all but one game en-route to the final.
Guehi, who made his international debut in 2022 against Switzerland, was given the task in Maguire’s absence through injury, with the latter having fought back to form.
Now Brown, who won 23 caps for England during an 11-year international career, feels Guehi has done enough to keep his spot for the UEFA Nations League and beyond.
"Next to John Stones, I’d like to see Marc Guehi," Brown told Boyle Sports. "He has been brilliant.
"We have seen him play week in and week out but seeing him do it for England at Euro 2024 was excellent.
"He’s quick, he has great concentration levels. He deserves to be in the team and playing next to John Stones in this new era."
Guehi was won 17 caps so far but has struggled with a winless start to the new Premier League season at Palace.
United defender Maguire meanwhile was a surprise recall for this month’s fixtures against the Republic of Ireland and Finland under interim boss Lee Carsley.
