Jermaine Pennant says Gareth Southgate departure opens door for one player's return to England

Ben White will soon return to the England squad, according to Jermaine Pennant.

White removed himself from consideration for the Three Lions in March, leading to speculation that he and former England manager Gareth Southgate had a falling out. While Southgate denied any such issues and stated that he would be open to bringing the Arsenal player back into the national team set-up, Pennant believes that Southgate's departure after Euro 2024 will eventually lead to White rejoining the side in the near future.

Speaking to bonuscodebets.com, Pennant explained that White's style of play would fit in well with the current England squad and that the absence of Southgate and former assistant coach Steve Holland will make a reunion easier for the player.

"When you don't like a manager and you've fallen out with him and his staff, I understand that because I think I fell out with most managers I played under at some point (laughs)," Pennant said. "It's hard to put grudges aside and be in that atmosphere. So I think he's made a decision on that basis.

"I don't think he doesn't want to play for his country because that is absurd. There was a big fallout and he just didn't want to be in the vicinity of Gareth or Steve Holland. I think when bigger games and tournaments are on the horizon, I think Ben White will come back. I think he will want to play for his country."
