John Barnes was a key figure in one of Liverpool’s greatest ever sides as his contribution at the end of the 1980s brought multiple successes to Anfield.
Armed with talent throughout the side and managed by Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool were the envy of English football as their free-flowing football made them so hard to beat.
Over 30 years later, Jurgen Klopp has moulded Liverpool into his vision and that has helped the German manager earn a similar level of glory as Dalglish.
With Barnes still a huge admirer and supporter of the club he represented for a decade, he’s answered who would be best suited for Klopp’s side from the team he stood out in, and his answer has brought huge praise for one player.
“Easy, Alan Hansen without a doubt,” said Barnes when speaking exclusively to DAZN via Gamblebase.com.
“He would walk into any side now because of the way football is played. You’re not playing against 6ft 4ins forwards who would elbow you in the nose.
“He’s quick, he’s intelligent, and he’s so calm on the ball. Alan Hansen for me would easily be a £150m player now.”
