Juventus claimed the advantage after defeating Olympique Lyonnais 2-1 in the first leg of their 2021-22 UEFA Women's Champions League quarterfinal in Turin on Wednesday.
A second-half red card to Lyon's Ellie Carpenter sparked a comeback by the hosts, who trailed early and appeared overmatched at times by the French giants. Catarina Macario put Lyon in front with an eighth-minute strike, forcing the home side to chase the seven-time UWCL winners for most of the match.
However, Carpenter's 62nd-minute ejection seemed to be the turning point as Juve found a breakthrough just nine minutes later through Cristiana Girelli. Then, in the 83rd minute, substitute Agnese Bonfantini found the winner after replacing Girelli moments earlier.
The teams will reconvene in France next week for the second leg.
