Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe has compared Alejandro Garnacho to another famous Old Trafford winger.
Sharpe was one of the first youngsters to find success at United under Sir Alex Ferguson, but despite having the talent to become an England international, he was usurped by Ryan Giggs, who would go on to represent United for two decades, first as a winger and then more centrally.
Garnacho has emerged this season as United’s most consistent wide player, as Jadon Sancho, Antony and Marcus Rashford have all struggled, and Sharpe told luckyblock.com that he sees similarities between the pair.
“Alejandro Garnacho is a little bit like a Ryan Giggs stylistically,” he said. “He seems to run with the ball as fast as he does without it – he’s not frightened at going at players and taking people on.
"He likes to take shots and isn’t afraid of missing them, which is great to see for a young player. He’s got a lot of character and aggression, which helps him when he tries to get past other players, even if he fails. I think he’s very much a Ryan Giggs-esque player.
“He’s just so direct and so quick, plus he’s hungry for goals. He’s someone that you pay your entrance fee to go and watch – he gets you on the edge of your seat because he takes people on and takes risks.
"His goal catalogue is already very impressive and he’s just an incredible talent. He’s certainly one of the first names on the team sheet at the moment – he can get Manchester United out of trouble because he can carry the ball from his own half into the final third, which takes a lot of pressure off defenders when you’re in tight games.
“He’s still a very young player and there will still be times when he makes the wrong decision in games, but the more he stays in the team, the better he will become.”
