Lee Sharpe believes that Kobbie Mainoo could be a Manchester United captain in future, and compared his winner against Wolves to the kind of goal scored by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
While both Messi and Ronaldo are in their last few years as professionals, they made their name by cutting in from the wing to devastating effect.
Mainoo did something similar when he scored an injury-time winner in a 4-3 win for United against Wolves, and appears to be establishing himself as a first-team starter.
“He’s been incredible,” Sharpe told luckyblock.com. “There’s nothing about him that hasn’t already been said that I can say, really.
"He’s cool, calm, composed, he reads the game well and is strong in his tackles. He doesn’t get bullied and overpowered during games, and his goal against Wolves last week was sheer class – that nutmeg followed by the drop of the shoulder and a far-post finish is something you’d expect Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo to do, someone who’s done it frequently for the past 10 years!
“At the moment he’s not the complete package and he does still give the ball away now and again, but there’s still an amazing amount of growth available in him.
!Once he’s played here for a season or two and feels really comfortable, you have to ask whether he could be a future United captain if he can keep himself fit.”
