Lionel Messi was named men's Ballon d'Or winner for the eighth time on Monday, extending his lead atop the all-time list.
Messi started the day with seven Ballons d'Or to his name, two more than the next highest (Cristiano Ronaldo). The Argentine led his national team to victory at the World Cup in Qatar and was a key member of the Ligue 1 title-winning Paris Saint-Germain side last season, convincing voters that he was once again the best men's player in the world.
On the women's side, Aitana Bonmatí won the Ballon d'Or after playing a large part in Spain's World Cup victory in August as well as Barcelona's Women's Champions League and Liga F titles in 2022-23.
