<p>Messi started the day with seven Ballons d'Or to his name, two more than the next highest (Cristiano Ronaldo). The Argentine led his national team to victory at the World Cup in Qatar and was a key member of the Ligue 1 title-winning Paris Saint-Germain side last season, convincing voters that he was once again the best men's player in the world.</p>
