Liverpool are in prime position for a first Premier League title in five years, but former defender Glen Johnson admits they are not "going to win every game".
The Reds are chasing a first top-flight triumph since Jurgen Klopp guided them to a rousing success during the 2019-20 Premier League season.
Since then, the crown has exclusively belonged to rivals Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, but a faltering stretch for the champions has seen Arne Slot's men take advantage.
Heading into the November international break, Liverpool are five points clear at the top of the table - and Johnson, who spent six years with them, feels they are in the box seat.
“This weekend saw a big step forward for Liverpool and they’re proving to be the most consistent team in the Premier League," he told Betfred.
"Manchester City have shown that they’re not untouchable, but they’re lucky that those four consecutive defeats haven’t solely happened in the league
"Otherwise, I would have said the title race is over. I’m not saying that they’re going to win every game, but there could be a time when they could afford to lose the odd game."
"If you want to be champions, you’ve got to find a way to win games when you’re not playing your best. If they’re doing that now, then it’s hard to imagine them slipping up.
"They’ve clearly got more to offer. They just need to keep their head down and go about their business quietly.”
Liverpool have also enjoyed a flawless start to their UEFA Champions League campaign, having won their first four games in the revamped group stage.
They next face Southampton in the Premier League before a blockbuster rematch of the 2022 UCL Final against Real Madrid follows later this month.
