Liverpool and Chelsea are not where they expected to be at this point in the season.
The teams sit ninth and tenth, respectively, on the Premier League table ahead of Matchday 21. It's been a rough go of the campaign for both sides, with each now realistically already out of the title race barring a miracle, and European places also slowly fading away.
While both are currently in the Champions League, the goal will be getting back to the continental competition for next season, either through winning it outright or climbing back up the Premier League table. With 10 points separating fourth-place Newcastle from Liverpool and Chelsea, the latter two clubs need to start chipping away now if they are to stand a chance at gaining entrance into the UCL for 2023-24.
A win for either side on Saturday could be the catalyst to save what is, up to this point, a lost campaign.
