Former striker feels too much is being asked of the manager.

Former Premier League striker Louis Saha doesn't believe that Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has found a connection with the current squad of players.

The Argentine has come under fire this season as the Blues have struggled for consistency, having lost the Carabao Cup Final and sitting mid-table in the Premier League.

Speaking to Paddy Power, however, Saha has sympathy for Pochettino because of the lack of cohesion in the way the squad has been built. The Frenchman says that there's a lack of connection, but it's unfair to lay the blame at the manager's door.

“We have seen less and less from the Chelsea board recently having been very active before that," Saha said.

"You can ask any manager in the world to deal with the number of new players that Mauricio Pochettino has had, and no manager will be able to find the miracle formula. It’s a hell of a job that Pochettino has been asked and it’s totally unfair for fans to boo and chant for José Mourinho.

“There are loads of exciting players at Chelsea but there’s no links between them. In terms of recruitment, they need a balance of leaders, experienced players and young players. The manager also needs to have players that he knows will produce certain performances.

“I don’t think Pochettino has that much of a connection with the players but it's his job to do that. Too much is being asked of him and fans might be fed up, but they have to recognise it and be patient. Nobody will come in and find a formula that works because it’s not easy to invest that much money on players.

"I feel for Pochettino, but he can’t find the answer in just five months.”
