Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe has backed the side to beat Manchester City at the Community Shield.
City won the Premier League last season but they were upset in the FA Cup final, allowing United to claim a spot in the season opener this coming Saturday.
Pep Guardiola’s men have been relatively quiet in the market so far, though that could change if they do sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid.
United meanwhile have added Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee, and are in the market for at least one more midfielder, and potentially Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
Speaking to Safest Casino Sites , Sharpe - who also appeared for Leeds United amongst other sides over a long career - praised Erik ten Hag’s tactics for the showpiece final last season, and backed the Reds to win once more.
“Last May in the FA Cup final I thought Erik ten Hag got his tactics spot on,” he said. “I don’t think we saw the strongest Manchester City side, both mentally or physically, so I’d expect a different performance from them this weekend.
“It’ll be a difficult game and I’d expect Ten Hag to play some of the academy boys like we’ve seen in pre-season – some of the senior players won’t be up to speed after featuring for their international teams.
“I’m anticipating a really good game – I’m going to go for a draw in normal time and United to win on penalties!”
