United have struggled after Ferguson's retirement.

Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole compared Alex Ferguson to Apple legend Steve Jobs.

Ferguson retired from managing the club in 2013 and since then the club have struggled to land any major trophies. They have won both English domestic cups, the FA Cup and League Cup, and also the Europa League, but they have failed in their pursuit of the Champions League and the Premier League ever since.

Jobs meanwhile was the man who defined Apple, though when he died from cancer he was ultimately replaced by Tim Cook, who has managed to steer Apple towards a huge growth in revenues without a huge overhaul of Jobs’ approach to design, with the iPhone the driver of their success.

In contrast, United have had a string of different types of managers, with permanent managers David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and latterly Erik ten Hag all coming under pressure after being unable to build on a solid foundation, if they built a foundation at all.

British businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe has now arrived to be co-owner alongside the Glazer family, and there are reports that he will stage a massive intervention on the football operations of Old Trafford to bring the club back to winning ways.

Cole told Betfred that United should go back to what served them best, saying: “When Steve Jobs passed away, did Apple change their approach? No, it’s tried and tested and it works.”
