Manchester City and Ferran Torres rampant as Arsenal suffer huge hammering

Manchester City and Ferran Torres rampant as Arsenal suffer huge hammeringDAZN
Arsenal's wait for their first Premier League point of the season goes on.

Arsenal’s disastrous campaign got even worse as they were humiliated 4-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Losses to Brentford and Chelsea in their opening two fixtures have piled massive pressure on Mikel Arteta. The manner of his side’s loss to the current Premier League champions will surely place his position under more scrutiny.

Arsenal got off to an awful start when they found themselves two goals down in the first 11 minutes. A hopeful ball into the box from Jesus was not dealt with as Ilkay Gundogan displayed more desire than Arsenal’s backline to head City in front after seven minutes. Shortly after, it was 2-0 as another cross went unchallenged before Ferran Torres tucked in from close range.

A red card for Granit Xhaka for a horror challenge on Cancelo was justified making Arsenal’s task even harder, and things continued to go wrong for them just before halftime. Superb work from Jack Grealish on the left wing saw the £100m man pull the ball back for Jesus, who made no mistake from a couple of yards out.

Just like in the first half, Arsenal couldn’t contain City in the early stages as Rodrigo fired in from outside the area with a well-placed finish. City was toying with Arsenal throughout, and they added to their total as Torres nodded home to get his second goal of the game. The City fans were delighted with the football on display, but for Arsenal supporters, their wait for their first point and goal of the new season goes on.
