Roy Keane says he can picture current England manager Gareth Southgate taking over at Manchester United.

Southgate is reportedly the first choice of Man United owner Jim Ratcliffe to succeed Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, despite no public indication that Ten Hag will be leaving the Red Devils at the end of the ongoing Premier League season.

Regardless, United legend Keane sees a scenario in which Southgate joins United following the completion of Euro 2024 this summer.

Speaking on Sky Bet’s Stick to Football podcast, Keane explained the logic behind a possible move.

“I could see that happening," Keane said. "Well, obviously everyone’s thinking he’s probably going to be with England this summer if he has a good Championship, thinking if they could win it.  And if they don’t, then maybe they’re thinking maybe you’ve ran your race with him.

"His connection with [reported incoming United sporting director] Dan Ashworth, who he has worked with previously. Yeah, I’m not that surprised with it.”
