Manchester United do not need Marcus Rashford in the player's current mental state, says former Premier League winner Paul Parker, as the forward seeks an Old Trafford exit.
The England international has endured a torrid few years at his boyhood club, having followed a career-best 2022-23 campaign with a season-and-a-half of diminishing returns.
Form cost Rashford a place at Euro 2024 in Germany last year, and the rot has not stopped with the change from Erik ten Hag to Ruben Amorim in the managerial dugout.
Effectively exiled under the Portuguese and publicly criticised for his efforts, Rashford's career appears at an impasse and Parker admits the club do not need him right now.
“I think everybody has to relate to what Amorim’s getting back from Marcus Rashford," he told Betfred when discussing the matter.
"He would have known about everything that’s been going on prior to him becoming manager and he just doesn’t want him to be a part of it.
"He’s putting the team first and the team doesn’t need Marcus Rashford in his state of mind.”
Rashford's continued absence has come despite difficulty in attack for United too, with only Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo scoring more goals for the club in the top-flight.
Pressure has fallen upon Rasmus Hojlund to deliver, but despite some promising performances in Europe, Parker believes the Dane has not lived up to the billing either.
“I think we have to look at it and say if there was somebody else of note at Manchester United, then he wouldn’t be playing," he added.
"He’d be sitting on the side on a regular basis and coming on from off the bench. He knows that himself.”
