Who will be appointed as Gareth Southgate's permanent replacement?

Lee Carsley got off to the perfect start as interim England boss this week, leading to a belief that he's set to land the job on a permanent basis.

The Three Lions saw off both the Republic of Ireland and Finland with 2-0 victories, to gain maximum points to kick-off their Nations League campaign.

The FA are still considering candidates for a full-time successor to Gareth Southgate, but Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has tipped Carsley to land the top job.

"I'd give it to him. I know a lot of people who know him and his character," he exclusively told Watch Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga live September 14 on DAZN (excluding Mexico, Latin America and China). Click here for details.

"Two good results, obviously, always when you win etc. I think he'll be a little bit more aggressive than Gareth was. Looking at the quality of England, that's all really that you want, just to be all the time at teams.

"Because he's got so many good players going forward and midfield players. Just go for teams. And I think that might make the difference. So I'd give it him.

"As we saw how he dealt with himself at the weekend, the FA don't want anyone who's going to say something every time he comes up to a press conference and they go, oh, my God, no, I can't believe it.  He's not that kind of person."

England return to Nations League action next month when they host Greece at Wembley before the return fixture with Finland.
