Reds could face losing big-name players for free next summer.

Mark Lawrenson has faith that the Liverpool board will do the right thing with the club's out-of-contract players but believes it will have to be in the club's best interests.

Mo Salah, Virgin van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold could all be free agents next summer, with their current deals set to expire at the end of the season and no sign of any new contract on the table.

Speaking exclusively to DAZN, thanks to Free Bets, Lawrenson has urged his former side to keep the star trio, but it has to fit the club's structure.

"Within reason, I'd give them new deals. Could you imagine how much it would cost you to replace them?" he said.

"So you may as well. And, you know, is Virgil 30, 31? It's nothing nowadays. You play to 35 the way he plays. Mo's different. Does Mo want to go and play in Saudi? He'd be king there, wouldn't he? So that's a little bit different.

"I think Trent just wants to play for Liverpool, and he wants to play every single game, and he wants to play every single minute. I'd be pushing the boat out.

"Because if you lost them, how many millions would it cost to replace them?  And who's going to say you actually get the people that you want? They've been clever, FSG, the owners and I think they're very, very fair.

"They understand because they've got sporting stuff at home, and they understand that players lose form, players get injured, all those kinds of things. But they also understand, you know, when Liverpool bought Virgil and Alisson, and it was a lot of money in those days. They were persuaded by Klopp.  And they now realise is sometimes you've got to pay over the top for class. And in those two occasions, world class.

"So you've got to try and keep them within reason."
